Preview: Brighton & Hove Albion Women vs. Arsenal Women - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Women's Super League clash between Brighton & Hove Albion Women and Arsenal Women, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Arsenal Women will attempt to record a sixth straight competitive victory when they face Brighton & Hove Albion Women at Broadfield Stadium on Sunday.

The hosts, meanwhile, have the chance to claim consecutive wins after picking up a surprise victory over Manchester City last weekend.

While Arsenal go into Sunday's contest as favourites, Brighton have proven in their last two matches that they can compete with the very best in the Women's Super League, having taken four points from their two matches against both Manchester clubs.

The Seagulls looked set to claim a narrow victory over Manchester United, before a 98th-minute equaliser ensured that they had to settle for a 2-2 draw.

However, they managed to clinch maximum points last weekend after Lee Geum-min netted an 81st-minute winner to lead her side to a 1-0 win over Man City.

Not only did Brighton secure their second league win of the campaign, but they also recorded their first clean sheet of the WSL season.

They will now turn their focus to Sunday's meeting, where they will attempt to end a five-game winless home run, which started with a 4-0 defeat to Arsenal on May 10.

Arsenal are currently enjoying a six-game winning run in all competitions after they fought back from behind to thrash Leicester City 6-2 last weekend.

The Gunners trailed by two goals at the break against the Foxes, but turned the game firmly in their favour with four goals in 12 minutes thanks to efforts from Cloe Lacasse, Alessia Russo, Caitlin Foord and Victoria Pelova.

Substitutes Stina Blackstenius and Lina Hurtig went on to grab a goal apiece to help Arsenal rack up six goals for the first time since May 2022.

After extending their unbeaten league run to five matches, Arsenal will head into the weekend in second position and three points adrift of leaders Chelsea.

Having each of their last eight competitive meetings with Brighton, the Gunners will be confident about their chances of collecting all three points on Sunday.

Team News

After missing the win over Man City with a knock, Brighton forward Madison Haley remains a doubt for Sunday's home meeting.

Despite coming off the bench to score the winner last weekend, Lee may have to settle for a place among the substitutes, with Terland set to lead the line after scoring five goals in six league games.

Colombian defender Jocelyn Carabali could be brought into the Brighton backline to help negate Arsenal's attacking threat.

Arsenal, meanwhile, were unable to call upon Laia Codina, Jen Beattie, Kim Little, Lia Walti and Vivianne Miedema for the win over Leicester.

Jonas Eidevall has indicated that all five players are in contention but will have to be assessed ahead of Sunday's away trip.

Although Blackstenius has scored in each of her last three appearances, Russo will continue to lead the line, and she will be looking to add to the two league goals that she has scored this season.

Brighton & Hove Albion Women possible starting lineup:
Baggaley; Li, Bergsvand, Thorisdottir, Carabali, Kullberg; Robinson, Zigiotti Olme, Losada, Bremer; Terland

Arsenal Women possible starting lineup:
Zinsberger; McCabe, Ilestedt, Wubben-Moy, Catley; Pelova, Walti; Lacasse, Maanum, Foord; Russo

We say: Brighton & Hove Albion Women 1-2 Arsenal Women

Having seen Brighton take four points off the two Manchester clubs, we think that the Seagulls will produce another competitive display on Sunday.

However, we think that the Gunners will still have the extra-quality required to edge out their hosts and claim a narrow victory.
