Sean Dyche: 'Burnley missed out on key transfer targets'

Sean Dyche reveals that Burnley missed out on signing players from Championship clubs due to a lack of transfer funds.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche has revealed that the club missed out on a number of their targets in the summer due to a lack of transfer funds.

Dyche, who secured promotion on the lowest budget in the Championship last season, claims that the Clarets were left frustrated in their attempts to sign players from second-tier teams due to the transfer fees being demanded by clubs.

"Some of the players we went in for in the summer the numbers were unbelievable and that's Championship players," the Burnley boss told reporters.

"Top end of the Championship players earning unbelievable money, way more than we pay in the Premier League, and clubs far richer than us, usually because of the owners, asking for astronomical fees this club just decided it couldn't do.

"There were three players we were in for in the Championship and if we got those three players it was over £20m, and only one had even played in the Premier League."

Burnley are still waiting for their first league win of the season.
