Vincent Kompany backs Manchester City to stay in Champions League

Vincent Kompany insists that Manchester City should not be written off in the Champions League, despite being just one result away from elimination.

Vincent Kompany has insisted that he still believes Manchester City can reach the knockout stages of the Champions League.

A 3-2 defeat to CSKA Moscow on Wednesday left City's qualification hopes hanging by a thread with two Group E fixtures remaining, but Kompany claims that the Premier League champions should not be written off by their critics.

"I am the captain and if no-one else believes anymore, I am the one who believes we might just have a chance," the Belgian defender told reporters. "We do have a chance.

"There are internationals between now and our next game in the Champions League. That gives us some time to clear our heads, come back, and see how much we still have to play for. That is what we have to look at."

City will be eliminated from the competition if they fail to beat Bayern Munich in their next game on November 25, or if there is a winner between Roma and CSKA Moscow on the same night.
