Burnley secure first win of season against Hull City

Burnley secure their first Premier League win of the season after seeing off Hull City 1-0 in Saturday afternoon's clash at Turf Moor.

Burnley have secured their first Premier League win of the season after seeing off Hull City 1-0 in this afternoon's clash at Turf Moor, thanks to Ashley Barnes's strike in the second half.

The first chance of the game came after just 40 seconds as Scott Arfield's long ball fell to Danny Ings, who bore down on goal and attempted to fire past the onrushing Steve Harper, but the effort bobbled just wide of the post.

In the third minute, Hull countered through Abel Hernandez, who scuffed a shot wide of Tom Heaton's goal, and still within the first 10 minutes, Kieran Trippier's mistake set Sone Aluko on goal but Jason Shackell intervened in time.

Burnley very nearly opened the scoring in the 20th minute when Ings forced a save out of Harper with a volley, before Paul McShane almost sliced the rebound into his own net, with Robbie Brady clearing off the line.

With just seven minutes until half time, Ings attempted an audacious effort from the halfway line, which flew five yards wide, while at the other end McShane headed over.

Eventually, the home side were able to break the deadlock just after the restart, when Barnes crept in between Ahmed Elmohamady and James Chester to head home a Kieran Trippier cross.

Just after the hour, George Boyd found himself with the ball heading towards him after Harper made a hash of an Ings cross, but the former Hull man's half-volley flew well above the bar.

The visitors then farcically found themselves down to ten men after Steve Bruce made all three substitutions with over 30 minutes to play, before Curtis Davies was forced to leave the field following an injury incurred from attempting an overhead kick.

Despite some pressure by Hull at the end, Burnley were able to see out the game and secure their first win of the season in front of their ecstatic fans.
