League One roundup: Burton Albion go top after victory at Swindon Town

Sports Mole rounds up all of Saturday's League One action, as Burton Albion go top following a 1-0 away victory to Swindon Town.

Burton Albion are top of League One following a 1-0 away victory to Swindon Town.

The Brewers went ahead in the first half after Stuart Beavon took advantage of some questionable defending, with Swindon unable to reply.

Meanwhile, Walsall missed the chance to go top after conceding a late penalty to Peterborough United.

The Saddlers went ahead in the 53rd minute thanks to a screamer from Saint Kitts and Nevis international midfielder Romaine Sawyer, and despite Peterborough going down to 10-men with five minutes remaining, Michael Bostwick was able to save the home side with a penalty to make it 1-1.

Gillingham drop to third after a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Colchester United. Gavin Massey opened the scoring for the home side early on, and while Luke Norris grabbed the Gills' equaliser just minutes later, Callum Harriott picked the winner for the U's later in the first half.

Coventry City remain fourth thanks to a 1-0 win at home to Chesterfield, with Newcastle United loanee Adam Armstrong scoring the winner five minutes into the second half.

Rochdale are fifth after a 2-1 home win to Scunthorpe United, going ahead after 67 minutes thanks to a Joe Bunney finish. Murray Wallace equalised for the visitors less than 10 minutes later, but it was Peter Vincenti who popped up for the Dale to secure the win in the last five minutes.

Bury are sixth after a home victory against Port Vale, with Nathan Cameron securing the win with a tap-in less than 15 minutes before the final whistle.

Wigan Athletic moved up to seventh with a 2-1 win against Fleetwood Town at the DW Stadium. Jordan Flores scored his first Latics goal six minutes before the end of the first half, while Michael Jacobs doubled his side's lead one minute into the second. Tyler Forbes gave the visitors hope with 30 minutes to go, but the Cod Army finished in defeat.

Elsewhere, Southend United moved out of the relegation zone after a 2-0 away victory at Millwall thanks to goals from David Mooney and Adam Barrett either side of half time.

Crewe Alexandra picked up their first win of the season with a 1-0 victory away to Shrewsbury Town, all thanks to an Adam King finish within the opening couple of minutes.

Doncaster Rovers and Oldham Athletic battled out a 1-1 draw at the Keepmoat Stadium, with goals from Andrew Butler for the home side and Jonathan Burn for the visitors.

Blackpool remain bottom despite a 1-1 home draw against Barnsley. Conor Hourihane put the visitors ahead early on, before Jack Redshaw equalised 10 minutes into the second half.
