Report: Cardiff City to appeal David Marshall red card

Cardiff City will reportedly appeal the red card shown to captain David Marshall in Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Rotherham United.

Cardiff City have decided to appeal over the red card shown to captain David Marshall in Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Rotherham United, according to reports.

The Scotland goalkeeper was dismissed towards the end of the first half for kicking out at Matt Derbyshire, an act that also earned the hosts a penalty.

According to BBC Sport, the Bluebirds will appeal the decision, with manager Russell Slade having no complaints about Marshall's dismissal, but claiming that a free kick should have been awarded prior to that.

Slade told reporters: "The first offence is a free kick to ourselves. It's a free kick on Marshall. How the referee can say he has not seen that is beyond me."

Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe scored the subsequent penalty to put the Millers ahead, before a Matthew Connolly own goal cancelled out Peter Whittingham's equaliser and gave the hosts all three points.
