Brendan Rodgers: 'Paris Saint-Germain gave Celtic a harsh, tough lesson'

Brendan Rodgers says that Celtic were handed a "harsh" and "tough" lesson by a Paris Saint-Germain side who have a "great chance of winning" the Champions League.

Brendan Rodgers has described Celtic's 5-0 hammering at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League as a "harsh" and "tough" lesson.

PSG's attacking trident of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani put four goals between them past the Hoops on Tuesday night, with a Mikael Lustig own goal capping off the rout.

Rodgers described his side's first-half performance as "too passive" but insists that the Parisians boast a lineup that has "a great chance of winning this competition".

The Northern Irishman told BT Sport: "We could've been better in the first half. We were too passive. We started the second half and I know it's easier to play when you're 3-0 down, but we were much better.

"I was proud of the players in that second half as they continued to work. We spoke at half time and were much better in the second half.

"You have to give them credit, they have shown why they will be up there with a great chance of winning this competition. It was a harsh lesson and a tough lesson."

The result is Celtic's heaviest ever home defeat in European competition.
