Saturday's League One predictions including Wycombe vs. Birmingham

Sports Mole provides score predictions and previews for all of today's League One fixtures, including Wycombe Wanderers vs. Birmingham City.

Charlton vs. Leyton Orient (Saturday, 12.30pm)

Charlton Athletic will be targeting a second straight league victory when they welcome Leyton Orient to The Valley on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the visitors will be looking to claim their first league win of the season after losing to Bolton Wanderers in their season opener.

We say: Charlton Athletic 2-1 Leyton Orient

Charlton have avoided defeat in their last seven league home matches, and we think they will carry that home form into the new League One season by claiming a narrow victory in Saturday's home game against Leyton Orient.

Shrewsbury vs. Peterborough (Saturday, 12.30pm)

Peterborough United travel to The Croud Meadow to face Shrewsbury Town in their second League One fixture of the 2024-25 campaign on Saturday afternoon.

Both teams are yet to open their account in the third tier after suffering defeats on the opening weekend of the new season.

We say: Shrewsbury Town 1-2 Peterborough United

Shrewsbury enter Saturday's contest the happier of the two teams following their midweek cup victory, but taking into account Peterborough's strong record against the Shrews in recent years, we believe the Posh will put aside their injury woes and come away from Shropshire with maximum points.

Newly promoted Stockport County will look to begin the League One season with back-to-back wins when they travel to Bloomfield Road for Saturday's meeting with Blackpool.

Meanwhile, the hosts will be keen to claim their first league win of the new campaign after they failed to take anything from their away clash with Crawley Town.

We say: Blackpool 1-1 Stockport County

Stockport may have suffered a heavy defeat in midweek, but they opted to name a much-changed side due to their injury situation and with one eye on Saturday's league clash.

We think the newly promoted side will do enough to take a point off their hosts, who are looking to extend their 12-game unbeaten home league run.

Cambridge vs. Crawley (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Fresh off the back of contrasting results in the EFL Cup, Cambridge United and Crawley Town go head to head at Abbey Stadium in round two of the League One on Saturday.

This will be the first meeting between the two teams since January 2021, when the U's stormed to a 3-1 victory courtesy of goals from Joe Ironside, Kyle Knoyle and Irishman Wesley Hoolahan.

We say: Cambridge United 1-1 Crawley Town

Still licking their wounds from their cup exit, Cambridge United will head into the weekend looking to pick up a morale-boosting result and put their first league win on the board.

While the Red Devils have enjoyed a solid start to the season, they have lost each of their last five visits to Abbey Stadium and we see them struggling once again.

Huddersfield vs. Stevenage (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Both aiming to build on winning starts to the League One season, Huddersfield Town and Stevenage will square off in the second round of fixtures at the John Smith's Stadium on Saturday.

The hosts impressed on their return to England's third tier with an away win over Peterborough, while their visitors got the better of Shrewsbury Town in their curtain-raiser.

We say: Huddersfield Town 2-1 Stevenage

While Stevenage have the quality and resilience to make things tough for Huddersfield Town on Saturday, we still see the hosts having too much and putting another victory on the board in a pleasing start to their season.

Lincoln vs. Barnsley (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Following differing starts to their League One campaigns, Lincoln City and Barnsley will square off at the LNER Stadium in the second round of third-tier fixtures on Saturday.

The hosts kicked off with an away win over Burton Albion last weekend, while their visitors fell short in the league's curtain-raiser at home to Mansfield Town.

We say: Lincoln City 1-1 Barnsley

We anticipate a tight and hard-fought contest on Saturday between two sides with plenty of quality and cannot quite pick a winner, instead opting for a low-scoring draw at the LNER Stadium.

Mansfield vs. Burton Albion (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Mansfield Town will be bidding to make it successive victories at the start of their 2024-25 League One campaign when they host Burton Albion on Saturday afternoon.

The home side beat Barnsley 2-1 in their season opener last Friday, while Burton opened their new campaign with a 3-2 loss to Lincoln City.

We say: Mansfield Town 2-1 Burton Albion

Burton are better than what they have shown early in the season, but Mansfield picked up an excellent three points last weekend, and we are backing Clough's team to make it successive victories at the start of their 2024-25 League One campaign.

Northampton vs. Exeter (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Exeter City will be bidding to make it back-to-back wins at the start of their 2024-25 League One campaign when they head to Northampton Town on Saturday afternoon.

The visitors opened their league season with a 1-0 victory over Rotherham United, while Northampton's campaign started with a 2-0 home defeat to Wycombe Wanderers.

We say: Northampton Town 1-1 Exeter City

There has only been one draw in the last seven league meetings between these two sides, and both teams won the away fixture during the 2023-24 campaign. It would not be a surprise to see a home or an away success here, but we just have a feeling that the points will be shared in a low-scoring draw.

Reading vs. Wigan (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Reading manager Ruben Selles reacts on January 23, 2024© Reuters

Reading and Wigan Athletic will both be eyeing their first three-point haul of the season when they go head-to-head in Saturday's clash at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

The Royals began their League One campaign with a 1-1 draw against Birmingham City, while the Latics fell to a narrow defeat in their home meeting with Charlton.

We say: Reading 2-1 Wigan Athletic

Last season, Reading recorded 12 of their 16 league wins at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, and we think they will carry that impressive home form into the new season, which is why we believe they will do enough to claim a narrow victory on Saturday.

Rotherham vs. Bristol Rovers (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Gillingham manager Steve Evans on December 7, 2021© Reuters

In search of their first points of the League One season at the second time of asking, Rotherham United will welcome Bristol Rovers to the New York Stadium on Saturday.

The hosts suffered an away defeat in their first game back in England's third tier last weekend, while their visitors got off the mark with an opening-day win.

We say: Rotherham United 2-1 Bristol Rovers

Despite their slow start, Rotherham United have plenty of quality in their ranks and should expect to kick into gear under Evans sooner rather than later.

With home advantage, we back them to prevail over Taylor's Bristol Rovers on Saturday and put their first points on the board.

Wycombe vs. Birmingham (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Wycombe Wanderers manager Matt Bloomfield reacts on April 7, 2024© Reuters

Birmingham City make the trip to Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday afternoon looking to improve from their opening-weekend draw in League One.

Meanwhile, the Chairboys play host to another title contender after losing out to Wrexham in their first game.

We say: Wycombe Wanderers 1-1 Birmingham City

With Birmingham at the start of their process under Davies, Wycombe will sense an opportunity. However, given the superior quality within the Blues ranks, we feel that the visitors will do enough to earn a share of the spoils.
