Lee Bowyer "delighted" with extended Charlton Athletic caretaker job

Charlton Athletic caretaker manager thanks club chairman Roland Duchatelet for extending his coaching role until the end of the season.

Lee Bowyer has expressed his gratitude towards Charlton Athletic owner Roland Duchatelet for appointing him as caretaker manager until the end of the season.

The former Leeds United player has already managed Charlton's last three games, but it was announced on Wednesday that Bowyer would continue his role until the end of the League One campaign.

The 41-year-old has won all three matches as Addicks boss, pushing the side up to sixth in the table.

"I was told late on Tuesday but mainly Wednesday morning [that I'd be manager until the end of the season]," he told reporters.

"I was delighted and thanked Roland for trusting me until the end of the season. It's a good opportunity to finish what I've started. We've got seven games to go with stability. That's good for everyone. We just have to keep winning games. That's it. Everybody knows that and that's what I'll be trying to do.

"If everybody is happy with what they're seeing on the pitch then that makes me happy. The biggest thing for me is the way the players are competing and working hard as a team and showing a togetherness. That's more important than the playing side because I know they can play. I've been in the game long enough to realise that things change so quickly in football. I would never have thought I'd be sitting here as caretaker manager a month ago. It is what it is. I'm in this situation and I've just got to enjoy it."

Charlton travel to the Memorial Stadium next to face Bristol Rovers on Saturday.
