Chelsea cannot sell tickets for their impending Champions League quarter-final as part of sanctions on owner Roman Abramovich following the invasion of Ukraine.

Chelsea will not be able to sell tickets for the impending Champions League quarter-finals as part of sanctions on owner Roman Abramovich.

The defending champions progressed to the last eight courtesy of a 2-1 second-leg win over Lille on Wednesday night, as Christian Pulisic and Cesar Azpilicueta struck at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

Chelsea saw off the French champions 4-1 on aggregate after a 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge, and the Blues will learn their quarter-final opponents on Friday morning.

However, with Abramovich being sanctioned by the UK Government as part of its response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Chelsea cannot sell tickets for the European encounter.

The news did not go down well with manager Thomas Tuchel, who responded: "Thanks for ruining my evening," when being informed of the sanctions after the second-leg win.

The Blues boss also admitted that he initially got his tactics wrong on Wednesday night, as the Blues now look ahead to Saturday's FA Cup quarter-final with Middlesbrough.
