Chelsea are sweating over the fitness of Edouard Mendy for the Champions League final after he was forced off on the final day of the Premier League season against Aston Villa.
The former Rennes shot-stopper lined up from the first whistle at Villa Park, conceding the opener to ex-Chelsea man Bertrand Traore and suffering an injury in the process.
Mendy was unable to shake off the problem during the half-time interval and was ultimately replaced by Kepa Arrizabalaga, who saw out the remainder of the Blues' 2-1 defeat in the West Midlands.
Thomas Tuchel admitted that Mendy was in a lot of pain in his pre-match press conference, telling reporters: "It is easy to explain, he fell into the frame of the net.
"He feels a big pain in his ribs. We will have an update tomorrow with what's going on. We will see if it is possible [that Mendy will be fit for the Champions League] and if it is possible, we will push to do everything so he is in goal on Saturday."
Mendy ends the Premier League season with 16 clean sheets to his name from 31 appearances, while he has recorded an impressive eight shut-outs in 11 Champions League matches.
