Chelsea striker Fernando Torres reveals that he was 'disappointed' and 'surprised' not to start in the Champions League final last night.

Chelsea striker Fernando Torres has said that he was surprised and disappointed not to start in the Champions League final last night, but admitted winning was the most important thing.

The Spaniard came on towards the end of the second half with the score at 0-0 and watched Bayern take the lead with seven minutes remaining at the Allianz Arena.

Many would have expected the Germans to hold on for the European crown but Torres won a corner in the 88th minute that strike partner Didier Drogba met with a bullet header to level.

Chelsea went on to claim their first Champions League by winning the penalty shootout 4-3.

Speaking afterwards, Torres said: "I was expecting to start.

"It was a big surprise for me, a big disappointment.

"But, in the final, the main thing is to win - it doesn't matter who plays."

With victory last night, the 28-year-old has added the biggest prize in club football to his European Championship and World Cup winners' medals with Spain.
