Juan Mata insists that you can only judge a season at the end, and is confident that Chelsea can still be successful this year.

Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata is confident that the club can still finish the season on a high.

The Blues, who are still in the FA Cup and the Europa League, take on Manchester City today and a win would take them within a point of second place.

The Spanish international concedes that it hasn't been all plain sailing for Chelsea this season, but insists that a team can only be judged at the end of the campaign.

"We are close, closer than it looks," Mata told The Telegraph.

"We are four points behind Manchester City and with a game against them now is the time for us to be together, to try to win as many games as we can because we still have the possibility of two trophies and to finish in the top two.

"It's true we've had good and bad moments [this season] but it's at the end of a season when you have to think and realise it was a good or bad season. [Right now] we still have chances to win."

Chelsea play Man City at 1.30pm this afternoon.
