Chelsea team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Watford

Sports Mole rounds up the latest injury and suspension news for top-four hopefuls Chelsea ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash with Watford at Stamford Bridge.

With a maximum of four games remaining in their season, Chelsea still have two potential avenues into next term's Champions League and both are firmly in their own hands.

The Blues welcome Watford to Stamford Bridge on Sunday knowing that victory could wrap up a top-four spot with a game to spare should other results also go their way.

However, Maurizio Sarri's side have drawn each of their last three matches across all competitions, including a 1-1 stalemate with Eintracht Frankfurt in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final on Thursday night.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest injury and suspension news for the Londoners heading into the final throes of the 2018-19 campaign.

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Antonio Rudiger limped out of his side's match against Manchester United last weekend with a second knee injury in a matter of weeks, and this one will keep him sidelined for the remainder of the season after requiring surgery.

Callum Hudson-Odoi

Status: Out
Type of injury: Achilles
Possible return date: Unknown

Callum Hudson-Odoi is also out for the rest of this season and faces a race against time to be fit for the start of the 2019-20 campaign after rupturing his Achilles tendon last month.

Gary Cahill

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Achilles
Possible return date: May 9 (vs. Eintracht Frankfurt)

Gary Cahill added to Chelsea's defensive concerns by picking up an Achilles injury, but the veteran is expected to return before the end of the season and could yet make what is expected to be a farewell appearance for the Blues.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Status: Slight doubt
Type of injury: Cramp
Possible return date: May 5 (vs. Watford)

Sarri revealed that Ruben Loftus-Cheek has not been able to train properly recently, but he lasted 83 minutes on Thursday night before being forced off. Sarri confirmed after the game that it was only cramp, though, and the England international should be fit in time for Sunday.

Ethan Ampadu

Possible return date: Unknown

Ethan Ampadu's first-team opportunities have been limited even when fit this season, but he has been unavailable since March due to a back injury and no return date has yet been set for the youngster.

Chelsea's forgotten man Marco van Ginkel is making progress in his recovery from a knee injury, although it is unlikely that he will feature this season - or ever again in a Chelsea shirt for that matter, with his last first-team appearance coming in 2013.
