Bolton Wanderers manager Owen Coyle believes that Chelsea were wrong to sack Andre Villas-Boas.

Bolton Wanderers manager Owen Coyle has claimed that Chelsea were wrong to sack Andre Villas-Boas.

The 34-year-old was dismissed last Sunday after just nine months in charge at Stamford Bridge.

"I have no doubt if he was given the time to see it through, Chelsea would have reaped the rewards and been stronger for many years to come," Coyle told PA.

"The job he did at Porto was there for everyone to see. But people don't realise what he did at Academica.

"Chelsea are looking for trophies, who is to say they wouldn't have won one if they had persevered with him?"

Bolton host Queens Park Rangers in the Premier League on Saturday, while Chelsea entertain Stoke City.
