Alan Hansen predicts Chelsea Premier League title challenge

Alan Hansen is confident that Chelsea are capable of pushing for the Premier League title next season.

Former Liverpool defender Alan Hansen believes that Chelsea can mount a serious challenge for the Premier League title next season.

The 57-year-old is confident that Juan Mata, Oscar and Eden Hazard can lead the Blues' campaign following their performance, which secured an FA Cup quarter-final replay, against Manchester United in yesterday's 2-2 draw at Old Trafford.

"If it really is all doom and gloom at Chelsea, then I think everyone would want a bit of that because they absolutely annihilated Manchester United in the second half and this could prove a major turning point," Hansen wrote in The Telegraph.

"Mata is already there, I think, and fully aware of the demands of playing in the Premier League. It has taken time with Hazard and Oscar and they have initially struggled with how quick the game is, and how in your face it can be, but next season the potential is there for them to take the league by storm.

"Whoever replaces [manager Rafael] Benitez has got a massive job this summer bringing in the players to help bring the best out of the three of them, because if he can do that, the sky is the limit and they will be back challenging on all levels."

Chelsea are currently in fourth place in the league table, two points behind Tottenham Hotspur.
