Birmingham manager Chris Hughton is delighted with his side's performance in their 1-1 FA Cup fifth-round draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Birmingham City manager Chris Hughton has expressed his delight at his side's 1-1 draw with Chelsea in the FA Cup fifth round at Stamford Bridge.

Hughton's side took the lead in the first half but were pegged back courtesy of a Daniel Sturridge equaliser just after the hour mark.

The result means that Birmingham will get another shot at the Premier League giants, this time at home, and Hughton believes his side did very well to overcome obstacles and secure the draw.

"We had the players out and then we lost Stephen Carr so early in the game, which was a big blow to us. He is a big player for us, our captain, and he has only just come back from injury. That was a big blow but we have had to cope with a lot of things today," the former Newcastle manager told ESPN.

"We also had to cope with a very, very good Chelsea team that caused us problems, but I thought that for large parts of the game we were able to cope with those problems and pose an attacking threat ourselves."

Birmingham currently sit sixth in the Championship table, five points behind the automatic promotion spots.
