Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola admits that his side have no momentum going into this weekend's Community Shield clash.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has admitted that his side have no momentum going into this weekend's Community Shield clash.

The Premier League champions face FA Cup holders Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday after a pre-season which has been affected by a host of first-team players holidaying following the World Cup.

Guardiola, however, told the Manchester Evening News that his side will look to play positively in the contest despite the numerous absences in his team.

"Momentum was a time ago, it was last season," the manager said. "We don't have momentum because we didn't start, not yet. Of course, we want to win, it's the final. We tried in our short time together to review what we have done, analyse a little bit what Chelsea will be to try and see what we have to do, and play the final.

"Of course, we want to win with the situation we have. Also, for Chelsea it is not the ideal situation - they've had more time together in this part, but we have the work from the last two seasons.

"We are going to try if the condition is coming, to see if what we worked on in this short time works or not. Every game will show you if you are in a good path or not, then in one week we have to go to the Emirates against Arsenal."

England international Raheem Sterling and Belgium midfielder Kevin De Bruyne are doubts for next Sunday's clash against the Gunners after only returning to City this week.
