Head coach Mauricio Pochettino feels that luck will eventually turn in Chelsea's favour despite suffering a 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday.

Head coach Mauricio Pochettino has insisted that Chelsea are only missing goals from their game after they lost 1-0 to Aston Villa on Sunday.

The Blues went into the Premier League encounter with the West Midlands outfit having failed to score against either of Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth.

That dismal run in the final third continued at Stamford Bridge as they succumbed to a second-half Ollie Watkins strike, with Chelsea having also been reduced to 10 men after a straight red card was handed to Malo Gusto.

Chelsea were booed off after drawing a blank at the Vitality Stadium last weekend, and they received the same reaction from a bigger crowd when going down to the Villans.

However, despite Chelsea having now endured their worst start to a season in 45 years, Pochettino has reiterated that only a combination of luck and not scoring goals is costing his side.

Speaking to BBC Sport, the Argentine said: "I am not frustrated, just disappointed. I think we were the better team until the red card.

"The team has given everything, we need to keep working. To play with 10 men is always difficult but the team worked hard.

"We need to change the situation, the only way I know we can change the situation is by working really hard. We are confident in the way we perform. The only thing we are missing is scoring. If we keep working hard we will change."

Pochettino was also quizzed at a press conference about conversations that he holds or may hold with club officials, feeling that they should continue to "support the plan" that they have put together.

He added: "They are disappointed, they arrived at the club and are so excited to build a project. Of course they feel disappointed but at the same time they need to support the plan."

Chelsea sit in 14th position in the Premier League standings, four points above the relegation zone and already nine adrift of fourth place.
