Fernando Torres admits that it would be a "catastrophe" if Chelsea do not qualify for next season's Champions League.

Fernando Torres has admitted that it would be a "catastrophe" if Chelsea miss out on a Champions League berth for next season.

The Blues are currently four points adrift of the Premier League top four and risk not qualifying for Europe's elite competition if they don't win the trophy this season.

Torres realises the ramifications if Chelsea don't qualify via either route and has said that everything possible needs to be done to guarantee that that doesn't happen.

"It would be a catastrophe to miss out on the Champions League and we must be prepared to do anything to achieve this," he told UEFA's official website.

"It doesn't matter who plays, who scores, who gives the assists and who stays out. The important thing is that we are successful."

Torres has scored just seven goals in 43 appearances for the Blues this campaign.
