Chelsea 'were warned off appointing Thomas Tuchel in 2017'

Chelsea were reportedly warned against appointing Thomas Tuchel as manager back in 2017, after they parted company with former boss Antonio Conte.

Tuchel was recently sacked by Paris Saint-Germain after nearly three years with the French champions and has been linked with the job at Stamford Bridge following the London club's decline in form under current head coach Frank Lampard.

The Daily Telegraph reports that Chelsea were tipped to appoint the German shortly after his sacking from Borussia Dortmund at the end of the 2016-17 campaign, as the Blues were worried that Conte would leave his role despite leading them to the Premier League title that season.

However, Chelsea were warned that the 47-year-old may prove to be just as troublesome as Conte or former manager Jose Mourinho.

Tuchel had allegedly fallen out with several players and members of staff at Dortmund and PSG, which proved to be a contributing factor to his dismissals at both clubs.

Chelsea are currently enduring a difficult spell, with Lampard's side winning just one of their last six Premier League matches, which has seen the Blues slip to ninth in the table, seven points behind joint-leaders Liverpool and Manchester United.
