Atletico Madrid prepare to pay £13.8m to keep Chelsea forward Alvaro Morata at the club for another season.

Atletico Madrid are reportedly preparing to pay £13.8m to keep Alvaro Morata at the club.

Morata joined Atletico on loan from Chelsea during the January transfer window, having struggled to make his mark with the English giants.

According to Goal, Morata signed a one-and-a-half year loan deal with Atletico, who will have to pay £13.8m in order to keep the Spain international at the Wanda Metropolitano until at least June 2020 as part of an agreement with the Blues.

Morata has scored six times and contributed one assist in 16 appearances for Diego Simeone's side in the second half of the 2018-19 campaign.

The 26-year-old managed 24 goals in his 72 appearances for Chelsea, but fell out of favour under Maurizio Sarri in the first half of the season and now looks likely to remain in Spain.
