Chelsea 'confident of keeping Olivier Giroud'

Chelsea are reportedly confident that they can convince Olivier Giroud to stay at the club with assurances over his game time before next summer's Euros.

Chelsea are reportedly confident of convincing Olivier Giroud to stay at the club past the January transfer window.

The former Arsenal man has been in prolific scoring form for the Blues as of late and has kept Tammy Abraham out of the team despite heavy speculation over his future.

Giroud netted his eighth goal of the campaign in all competitions in Chelsea's 2-1 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday, and the 34-year-old has led the line in the Blues' last three Premier League games.

A spot in France's squad is at stake for Giroud with the Euros just around the corner, but according to The Telegraph, Frank Lampard's side are confident that the veteran forward will remain a Chelsea player beyond January.

The report states that Giroud wants enough first-team action to be assured of a place in Didier Deschamps's squad for next summer, and Chelsea are prepared to honour the striker's wishes and show him that he is a vital player in Lampard's system.

However, Giroud is yet to put pen to paper on an extension at Stamford Bridge, where he has six months left to run on his current deal.
