Kenny Dalglish feels that Chelsea's decision to offer Frank Lampard a new contract at the club was a "no-brainer".

Kenny Dalglish has said that Chelsea's decision to offer Frank Lampard a new contract at the club was a "no-brainer".

Lampard signed a one-year extension at the club last week, and Dalglish believes that the offer should have been made a lot sooner.

"I'm not surprised that Chelsea offered Frank Lampard a new contract this week but I am surprised they did not do it ages ago," Dalglish wrote in his column in The Mirror.

"Every time Lampard plays, he makes a significant contribution. Why Chelsea even considered not giving him a new deal is beyond logic.

"It's a no-brainer to keep him on. He's not the type to rest on his laurels now that it's all been sorted, either. He's got the kind of drive that will make him want to play even better next season."

Lampard became the club's all-time top scorer after bagging his 203rd goal for the Blues in the 2-1 win over Aston Villa last week.
