Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski remains in direct contact with Barcelona boss Xavi ahead of a potential move this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has been in direct contact with Barcelona boss Xavi ahead of a potential move this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 33-year-old is being heavily linked with a move away from the Allianz Arena in the upcoming transfer window, with the Poland international refusing to extend his contract that expires in the next 12 months.

Despite Bayern's insistence that the striker will remain at the club beyond the summer, Lewandowski revealed at the weekend that he believes he has played his last game for the Bundesliga champions.

In addition to Lewandowski's revealing statement, transfer expert Romano has reported via his official Twitter account on Thursday that the striker has been in contact with Xavi on two occasions.

Romano tweeted: "Robert Lewandowski has already had two direct contacts with Xavi. The plan is still clear, contract until June 2025 discussed - it's up to the clubs now.

"There are no talks with any other club yet - as he wants Barcelona as priority."

Chelsea have also been linked with a move for the former Borussia Dortmund forward in recent days, but according to Romano, Barcelona look to be the favourites to land their target.
