Jose Mourinho: 'Chelsea only sign quality players'

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho insists that the club are only interested in high-calibre players after they were linked with FC Tokyo striker Yoshinori Muto.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has insisted that a player would not move to Stamford Bridge unless he had the potential to make an impact in the first-team squad.

The Premier League leaders have been linked with a move for Japanese striker Yoshinori Muto, just two months after signing a sponsorship deal with a Japanese tyre manufacturer, but Mourinho has revealed that he only wants players in his squad who can improve the team.

The 52-year-old told reporters: "That is modern football. It is modern management. In modern management you cannot close the door to a bit of commercial interests.

"But at the same time, a football club is always a football club and a top club only has space for really good players or prospects. We would not bring in a player who does not have the capacity to perform or potential to do so."

The 22-year-old, who plays for FC Tokyo, has netted once in 11 appearances for Japan.
