Nagelsmann: 'Werner to Chelsea not guaranteed'

Julian Nagelsmann expects Timo Werner to leave RB Leipzig this summer, but says that a move to Chelsea is not yet complete.

RB Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann has revealed that striker Timo Werner's proposed switch to Chelsea "is not fixed".

The Blues are rumoured to have triggered the Germany international's £54m release clause and agreed personal terms earlier this month.

No official confirmation has yet been given of a move going through this summer, though, and Nagelsmann says it is not guaranteed that Werner will be a Chelsea player next season.

"The transfer is not fixed you, you have to emphasise that," he told Sport1.

Realistically speaking, however, Nagelsmann expects Werner to depart the Red Bull Arena in the coming weeks.

"I'm a coach with a realistic view and dreams," he added. "I'm aware that one or another highly talented player will leave us.

"It's up to us, then, to find new players who can follow in such big footsteps."

Werner has played a direct part in 33 Bundesliga goals this term, level with Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho and Robert Lewandowski of Bayern Munich.

Liverpool were previously considered the frontrunners to sign the 24-year-old, while Bayern Munich have also been linked.
