Steven Gerrard wants England to make the most of Ashley Cole

England captain Steven Gerrard says that it has been a "pleasure" to play alongside Ashley Cole and believes that the Chelsea full-back should keep his spot.

England captain Steven Gerrard believes that the national side should continue to play full-back Ashley Cole.

The Chelsea player has been amid controversy in the Three Lions camp after being charged by the Football Association for branding the governing body "a bunch of twats" on Twitter.

Despite calls for Everton full-back Leighton Baines to be picked ahead of the 31-year-old, Gerrard believes that England need to make the most out of Cole as he nears the final few years of his career.

"It's been a pleasure to play with him over the years," BBC Sport quotes Gerrard as saying.

"He's been one of the best left-backs this country has ever produced. Let's enjoy the last few years of his time with us."

England will take on Poland in their 2014 World Cup qualifier in Warsaw tonight.
