The Confederations Cup could reportedly be abandoned due to continuing protests in Brazil against the World Cup.

The tournament involving the likes of Spain, Uruguay, Italy and the home nation, has been marred by the continuing unrest, which has involved thousands marching the streets expressing their anger at the country staging next year's World Cup.

According to Sky Sports News, local media in Brazil have reported that FIFA may need to cancel the event midway through the tournament due to the protests, which have intensified over the last few days.

People within the country have staged marches against the World Cup as well as high tax inflation, corruption and poor public services.

In some cases, the protest have become violent, with cars and buses being set alight, prompting armed police to line the streets.
