Former Crawley Town captain Josh Simpson has signed a one-year contract with Plymouth Argyle.

The 28-year-old turned down a new short-term offer at Broadfield Stadium after making only nine appearances in League One last season because of injury.

Simpson played 165 times for Crawley, having been recruited by then manager Steve Evans in December 2010, and worked under Pilgrims assistant Craig Brewster.

He has also played for Peterborough United, Southend United and Cambridge United.
