Josip Simunic denies 'pro-Nazi' chants

Josip Simunic denies making 'pro-Nazi' chants following Croatia's victory over Iceland last night.

Croatia defender Josip Simunic has denied making 'pro-Nazi' chants following last night's 2-0 victory over Iceland.

The 35-year-old was caught on camera as he addressed the crowd with chants of "for the homeland" - a statement which has ties with the Ustashas, Croatia's pro-Nazi regime during the Second World War.

"Some people have to learn some history," EuroSport quotes the Dinamo Zagreb player as saying.

"I'm not afraid. I did nothing wrong. I'm supporting my Croatia, my homeland.

"If someone has something against it, that's their problem."

Simunic was booked three times by Graham Poll before being sent off in Croatia's exit from the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
