Yohan Cabaye: 'Crystal Palace not a backwards step from Paris Saint-Germain'

Yohan Cabaye shrugs off the notion that he has taken a step back in his career by swapping PSG for Crystal Palace.

Crystal Palace new boy Yohan Cabaye has dismissed suggestions that joining the Eagles represents a backwards step after leaving Paris Saint-Germain.

The France international, 28, joined the Londoners on Friday for a club-record £10m - a fee that could rise to £13m - after struggling for game time with Les Parisiens last term.

The ex-Newcastle United midfielder is reunited with boss Alan Pardew - who brought him to England in 2011 - and says that the move will boost his chances of making Euro 2016.

However, when asked by L'Equipe if joining Palace is a sign of regression, he said: "Sincerely, no. And in any case, this point does not concern me.

"I would like it to have happened differently [at PSG] and I have done all I could to change the situation. But it's like that in a career: there are highs and lows. Making the squad for Euro 2016's my big objective.

"I want to show Didier Deschamps I'm still here and I'll work as a consequence. I'll do everything to regain the rhythm I had before signing for Paris."

Cabaye signed a three-year deal with Palace.
