Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew hails "very important" James McArthur

Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew hails James McArthur after the midfielder signs a three-year contract extension with the club.

Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew has praised James McArthur following the midfielder's decision to sign a new deal with the club.

The 27-year-old, who joined the Eagles from Wigan Athletic last summer, penned a three-year extension on Tuesday.

Scotland international McArthur had previously been linked with a move away from Selhurst Park, with Everton and Leicester City among the clubs thought to be interested in the player.

"James is a very important player for this football club," Pardew told Palace's official website. "He was key for me last season and he has impressed with every aspect of his play.

"Because of the quality that he brings and the attitude that he has, it was important to offer him this new deal. I've been a fan of his for a long time and was impressed with his performances when he was playing for Wigan," he added."

McArthur scored two goals in 33 appearances for Palace during the 2014-15 campaign.
