Crystal Palace have announced that president Peter Morley has passed away at the age of 84.

The former Eagles chairman, who had been president of the club since 2000, died peacefully in his sleep at the Princess Royal University Hospital in Bromley last night.

"The club are saddened to announce the passing of club president Peter Morley, CBE," read a statement on the club's official website.

Peter was a tremendous ambassador for the club in various roles over many years. He will be sadly missed by all at the club and condolences are sent to wife Paula and daughters Fran and Alex."

Morley was appointed temporary chairman in 1999 following the financial demise of Mark Goldberg. His spell in charge came to an end when Simon Jordan acquired the club in 2000.
