Alan Pardew: 'Emmanuel Adebayor must prove himself'

Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew says that Emmanuel Adebayor must perform in the club's final two matches of the season in order to earn a contract extension.

Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew has claimed that whether Emmanuel Adebayor stays at Selhurst Park will depend on the striker's performances in their final two matches this season.

The experienced centre-forward joined Palace on a free transfer in January and while his current deal will expire this summer, there is the option of signing for a further 12 months.

The 32-year-old has only scored once for Palace this season, but Pardew has revealed that the Togo international will be involved against Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday, in addition to the FA Cup final against Manchester United next weekend.

"He's been a good character around this place, he's won trophies. He hasn't had a lot of starts but we have still got two big, big games to go," Pardew told reporters. "The decision we make on Ade will be on these two big games. I think he has still got a big part to play as he's a top player."

Adebayor has previously represented Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.
