Alan Pardew elated with Crystal Palace display in win over Watford

Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew reveals that he was delighted with the performance of his side in their 1-0 victory over Watford at Vicarage Road.

Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew has revealed that he was elated with the manner of his side's victory over Watford in their Premier League clash.

The teams battled out a tight contest at Vicarage Road, but the game was decided by a penalty when Allan Nyom brought down Wilfried Zaha in the box.

Yohan Cabaye scored from the spot to hand the Eagles the win, but Pardew has revealed that he was pleased with the overall manner of his side's display.

He told Sky Sports News: "Sometimes as a manager you want a performance that lifts you – the back four were terrific and didn't give Watford too much daylight. Down the sides our wide players caused trouble and we got ourselves a great win in a tight game.

"We've lost two tight games, so a win makes up for the games where the margins cost us. I thought Wilfried Zaha did very well against Charlton in midweek, and then today fresh coming off the bench he caused a problem because he's got that determination to prove me wrong – and I like that.

"I just think we carried a little more threat – we had a key moment and I'm not sure they did today. Second half Dwight Gayle should have scored. It wasn't a classic but it was a good game for me and my staff."

Palace moved to sixth in the Premier League as a result of their win.
