Doncaster Rovers have allowed former midfielder Richie Wellens to join pre-season training ahead of their Championship return.
Wellens left Leicester City earlier this week after reaching an agreement with the club over the last year of his contract.
The team's boss Paul Dickov is keen to offer the 33-year-old a deal at the Keepmoat Stadium, but he is being prevented from doing so with the club currently in talks with potential investors.
The former Manchester United trainee made 86 appearances for Rovers between 2007 and 2009.
