Fabio Capello: Everything permitted when you win

Fabio Capello says that controversial off-field behaviour can be forgiven if a team wins.

Fabio Capello has said that controversial off-field antics can be forgiven if a team performs well on the pitch.

Speaking ahead of England's Euro 2012 qualifier with Montenegro, the Italian said that perceptions of off-field behaviour are ultimately determined by whether a team wins or not.

"When you win, everything is good," Capello said. "Even if you go for a drink or out with women, everything is good if you win.

"But when you lose, it's a disaster. The results are the most important thing. Everything is good when you win. The other things are wrong when you lose.

"I do not think it is talking about looking for excuses. But it is all about results. They determine the questions."

Referring to the recent controversial behaviour of some members of the England rugby team in New Zealand, Capello said: "If you're doing things like bungee jumping and nobody is injured, it is good.

"But also I know very well what rugby players are like. They are different."

England face Montenegro tonight (Friday), where they need one point to qualify for the next stage of the European Championship.
