Roy Hodgson raises concerns over the ability of England's elder players to deal with the physical demands of tournament football.

England manager Roy Hodgson has expressed concern regarding the potential effects of fatigue on his squad.

Central trio Steven Gerrard, John Terry and Scott Parker, all of whom are over the age of 31, all missed significant chucks of the domestic club season through injury.

Hodgson said: "They are over 30 years of age and had to work really, really hard against France.

"I'm sure I'm not going to be the only coach wondering, 'Can they do it every four days'? But this is what tournament football is about.

"What we've got to make certain of is that if they start to show signs of fatigue, that have people like Jordan Henderson and James Milner to go into central midfield, or Phil Jones or Phil Jagielka into central defence, and that they can do exactly the same job."

Gerrard and Terry both played 90 minutes of the Three Lions' 1-1 draw with France on Monday, while Parker was withdrawn after 78 minutes.
