Roy Hodgson admits concerns over England's failure to convert chances

England boss Roy Hodgson is wary of his side's lack of goals at Euro 2016 thus far, which he concedes could cost them a place in the last eight of the competition.

Roy Hodgson has admitted that England face the prospect of a shock Euro 2016 exit if they continue their profligacy in front of goal.

The Three Lions have created plenty of chances across their three group-stage outings so far, without truly making their openings count.

A late win over Wales was bookended by frustrating draws with Russia and Slovakia, with the latter result in particular proving costly as England missed out on the chance to top Group B.

Hodgson admits that his forward players must now find their feet in the knockout stages, or else an early exit is on the cards when they face tournament minnows Iceland on Monday evening.

"I'm happy with the work they're doing," he is quoted as saying by ESPN. "I am just unhappy that the dominance is not leading to the goals. Obviously we have to be better in that area and everyone knows it because if we don't score goals we can't continue in the competition.

"It's no good. You don't get prizes for possession, you don't get prizes for the most corners, you don't get prizes for having the best of the play. You get prizes if you win. And really our performance against Wales was no better than our performance against Slovakia or Russia.

"Arguably in many areas it perhaps wasn't even as good. But we won so that was a great game and the other two were bad games. That's how it is. We know that. And now it's very simple - If we don't win now, we go home. So we had better start making sure we score our goal-scoring chances."

Only two teams, Germany and Spain, enjoyed more possession than England across the group stage.
