Charlie Austin has admitted that he was not surprised by his omission from the England squad for last night's Euro 2016 qualifier against Lithuania and Tuesday evening's friendly in Italy.
Reports had suggested that the 25-year-old was in the running for a place in Roy Hodgson's selection as a result of the 15 goals that he has scored in the Premier League for Queens Park Rangers this term.
However, he was overlooked, with Hodgson instead opting for Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane to accompany the three other senior centre-forward options.
"If you look at the strikers, three picks themselves - Rooney, Sturridge and Welbeck. Then, if you don't pick Kane after the form he's been in this season, he's been incredible, so no [I didn't expect it]," he told Soccer AM.
Only Kane, Diego Costa and Sergio Aguero have scored more Premier League goals than Austin this term.
