Fabian Delph: 'England have forgotten about World Cup woe'

Fabian Delph believes that the "promising players" in the England squad will bring future success to the nation following last year's World Cup disaster.

Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph has insisted that England are no longer scarred by last year's dismal World Cup performance as they aim to continue their unbeaten run in the Euro 2016 qualifying campaign.

The Three Lions were dumped out of the tournament in Brazil after failing to claim a win in the group stage, but since then, Roy Hodgson's side have picked up 15 points from their five Euro qualifiers.

This Sunday, England will hope to continue their run with a win over Slovenia, and Delph believes that the squad looks "promising" for the future.

"[The World Cup] is in the past now and we are looking forward to the future," The Express quotes Delph as saying. "We have some promising players who look like they are going to kick on and hopefully that will happen soon.

"Of course, for me it was about performing well for my club, I wasn't really think about the international stage. I just thought if I played well for Villa I may get a chance to join up with the squad and try and get involved."

Delph could earn his sixth international cap this weekend.
