Steven Gerrard: 'England career is 6/10'

Steven Gerrard says that his England career could have been better ahead of winning his 100th international cap.

England captain Steven Gerrard has admitted that his international career could have been better.

The 32-year-old will win his 100th cap for the Three Lions on Wednesday when England travel to face Sweden in Stockholm.

Despite the accolade, the Liverpool skipper believes that his spell with the national team is poor compared to Bobby Moore and Sir Bobby Charlton, who both won the World Cup in 1966.

"If they are a 10 I would rate myself as a six or seven," said Gerrard.

"[Moore and Charlton] will always be heroes of mine and heroes of English football.

"In football, hero and legend status get given out far too easily. As far as playing for England goes, there are maybe 14 or 15 heroes. The rest haven't really delivered."

Peter Shilton, Billy Wright and David Beckham are the other players to have earned 100 caps.
