Hart: 'England career has been a failure'

England goalkeeper Joe Hart admits that his international career has been 'a failure up until now' due to a lack of success in major tournaments.

Joe Hart has confessed that his international career with England cannot be considered a success until he helps the nation to tournament glory.

The 30-year-old has amassed 73 caps for the Three Lions since making his senior bow nine years ago, taking part in four summer competitions during that time.

England have struggled to make any sort of impact on the international stage with Hart in the side, however, and the West Ham United loanee concedes that he is not entirely happy with his England career to date.

"It was something I didn't need to dream about - because I didn't think it was possible," he told The Offside Rule. "The next thing after that is to do something with your England career and make it matter. I have failed up until now so I need to change that."

"I want to amass as many caps as I can, I want to be the goalkeeper who plays for England, but I would swap all of that for a trophy or playing an important role in a good summer for the nation. That's my only intention when I play for England."

Hart is expected to start England's next World Cup qualifier against Slovenia on Thursday evening, with Jordan Pickford, Jack Butland and Fraser Forster providing competition.
