Mark Palios backs the appointment of Greg Dyke as the new FA chairman.

Former FA chief executive Mark Palios has said that the appointment of Greg Dyke as the new FA chairman is "good".

Palios admitted that Dyke's experience of public positions and passion for the game should ensure that he succeeds when he takes over from David Bernstein in July.

"It's a pretty good appointment," BBC Sport quotes Palios as saying. I've met him very briefly.

"He's a very experienced guy in terms of a public position, which is very important. He's used to dealing with governmental departments and agencies and my take on him is he's a pretty down to earth bloke.

"He's a football man but not in the sense of somebody who is tarred with the system and I think in that regard it's a good choice."

Dyke is the current chairman of Brentford.
