Southampton defender Luke Shaw has expressed his pride and excitement at being called up to the England squad for the first time.
The 18-year-old was today named among Roy Hodgson's selections for the upcoming friendly with Denmark on March 5, and the youngster admits to being overwhelmed upon hearing of his inclusion from the Three Lions boss.
"It's a very proud day for me, I still cannot believe it," he told the Saints website. "I'm only 18. I cannot believe it. I am really excited. It's a massive confidence boost for me.
"Roy rang me this morning and told me I was in the senior team, and that I was there on merit. I wasn't expecting it. I didn't know what to say."
The left-back has made 24 appearances for the Saints in the Premier League this season.
