Steven Gerrard relishing Daniel Sturridge, Wayne Rooney partnership

England captain Steven Gerrard says that he is looking forward to seeing Wayne Rooney team up with Daniel Sturridge.

England captain Steven Gerrard has revealed that he is looking forward to seeing Wayne Rooney and Daniel Sturridge form a partnership up front for the Three Lions.

The skipper believes that both players are important to success in the upcoming World Cup qualifying games against Montenegro and Poland.

"It's the Rooney and Sturridge partnership that gets me smiling and if that clicks then it has the potential [to get us a result]," Gerrard told reporters.

"Sturridge is even better than I thought. I'd seen him playing for Chelsea or Manchester City but to work with him daily [at Liverpool], you get to see him closer, and I think the stage is set for him to go and produce for many years and score a ton of goals.

"Wayne is the main man and it gives us all a boost. If he is on form and smiling then it means we're likely to get two top performances from him and in that form, whether it's for Manchester United or England, those teams don't lose too many matches."

First up for Roy Hodgson's side is Montenegro at Wembley on Friday evening.
