Leighton Baines: Everton put "everything we had" into Sunderland draw

Leighton Baines admits that he is "disappointed" not to have taken all three points from today's 1-1 draw against Sunderland, but insists that his side gave it their all.

Everton defender Leighton Baines has admitted that he is "disappointed" to have seen his side held to a 1-1 draw by Sunderland at the Stadium of Light this afternoon.

The 29-year-old found the net 15 minutes from time to cancel out Sebastian Larsson's earlier free kick, ensuring that the game finished all square.

Sunderland thought they had won the game late on when Wes Brown headed goalwards, but James McCarthy was on hand to clear away off the line.

"It was a bit of a war of attrition in the end," Baines is quoted as saying by BBC Sport. "We put everything we had into it. We're disappointed that we couldn't win it.

"We know we are capable of playing in Europe on Thursday and now, we've got the squad and can cope."

Everton head into the international break sitting in 10th place in the Premier League table.
