Everton to wait on Sylvain Distin's injury fate

Roberto Martinez says that he is yet to discover whether Sylvain Distin will miss the rest of the season, but the defender is out of Saturday's trip to Southampton.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has claimed that the club are yet to discover whether defender Sylvain Distin will play again this season.

The 36-year-old picked up a knock during the Toffees' 2-0 victory over Manchester United on Sunday, and will definitely miss Saturday's trip to Southampton.

"In the next 24 to 48 hours we will know whether Sylvain will be available again this season," Martinez told reporters in Thursday's press conference.

Martinez has also insisted that he will not rush Phil Jagielka back into the fray due to Distin's injury blow.

Everton are one point behind fourth-placed Arsenal in the Premier League with three games left to play.
