Roberto Martinez: 'Everton aiming higher than sixth place'

Everton manager Roberto Martinez reveals that he wants his team to finish higher than sixth place this season.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has revealed that he is aiming higher than a sixth-placed finish for his team this season.

The Toffees are currently in sixth position in the table, nine points off a Champions League spot.

Martinez has now urged his players to win as many of their remaining games as possible so that they can fight for European qualification.

"We've never had it in our aims to finish sixth. We want to finish as high as we can and that's still the case," the Spaniard told the club's official website.

"Obviously, when the season finishes, you sit down, see where you are in the table and see where that leaves you but I would never look at this season as one where we're trying to fight for sixth position.

"We are sixth now and over the season it's about as low as we've been. In terms of results, I don't think the table reflects the season we've had."
